How does a Condenser Microphone works ?

When sound waves hit the diaphragm, it moves back and forth relative to the solid backplate. In other words, the distance between the two capacitor plates changes. As a result, the capacitance changes to the rhythm of the sound waves. Voilà, we have converted sound into an electrical signal.   The capsule signal itself, however, is much too “fragile” to be connected to other pieces of gear. The condenser capsule’s output voltage is actually quite high, but it produces almost no current, because so little energy is stored in this small capacitor. It requires what is called an “impedance converter”, a circuit that buffers between the capsule and the outside world. The impedance converter makes the signal more “sturdy” by making more signal current available.   Condenser microphones therefore require external power. This could be inconvenient in the old days, but today just about any microphone input offers P48 phantom power.

You should first determine whether you need an instrument mic, a drum mic, or a vocal mic.

Condenser microphones are best used to capture vocals and high frequencies. They are also the preferred type of microphone for most studio applications. Also known as capacitor microphones, condenser mics are mainly used in studios because of their detail and accuracy. But how is this achieved? Condenser mics are constructed with a lightweight diaphragm which is suspended by a fixed plate. Sound waves cause pressure against the diaphragm, which causes it to move. Because of the thin diaphragm and increased sensitivity, condenser mics are often used to pick up delicate sounds. They also need a power source. While this usually comes in the form of phantom power, it is not uncommon to use a 9v battery.

Dynamic microphones are best used for booming sounds or louder environments . Another reason why dynamic microphones are great for live sound is that they are incredibly tough. While it’s not ideal to drop a microphone, if you drop your dynamic mic, you are far less likely to damage the mic than if you were to drop a condenser mic. Dynamic mics also don’t need batteries or phantom power, and usually, cost far less than condenser mics. A dynamic mic requires little to no maintenance, and if you practice a reasonable level of care, it will maintain its performance for a lifetime.

Studio monitors buying guide Nepal : Studio monitors are speakers made for music production purposes such as editing, mixing, and monitoring. 

Besides that, We can also use them for day to day activities such as using it as an extension for your TV speakers or filmmaking. A studio monitor might include one or more drivers like the woofer, Tweeter, single driver subwoofers, and bass drum.

The Tweeter is usually placed vertically above. They are typically shaped in the form of a dome or cone; they are made from a series of materials. They are known for producing high-frequency sounds, which usually start at about 2 kHz.

The second speaker is usually vertically placed under the Tweeter; this is called a woofer. They are commonly known to be shaped like a cone and are known for producing the mid to low frequency sounds, which are then displayed on monitors which have two drivers, also known as “two way.”

A third driver can be found in some monitors and also a mid-range speaker. The Tweeter makes high frequencies, the mid-range speaker produces mid frequencies, and the woofer makes low frequencies, this is how this three-way system works.

What are the types of Studio Monitors ?

The different studio monitors available in the market  are the mid-field, near-field, and far-field.

1) Near-Field Monitors

The drivers in these monitors are usually small and are situated close to the listener at about two to three feet. Their closeness enables the produced sound to reach the listener’s ear more audibly than when it is bounced around the surfaces in the room. Near fields have been known to increase the amount of direct sound and reduce the amount of reflected sound.

2) Mid-field Studio Monitors

These monitors have a larger cabinet to accommodate the bass extensions, they have an improved mid to high-frequency distribution at a farther distance. These monitors are made for a way bigger studio space.

3) Far-Field Monitors

These monitors are quite extensive, including the Driver, so they are fitted along the walls of the studio space, far away from the audience at about 10 feet away. They are most times hooked to the wall or inside the wall at the back of a mixing table. These monitors usually have about 2 to 3 speakers, which are the Tweeter, mid-range driver, and the low-range Driver.

4) Passive Monitors

Passive monitoring systems are modular in nature, requiring you to match your speakers with an appropriate amplifier and crossover. 

This needs an external amplifier to aid the amplification of the input signal before going into the monitor. The signal that has been amplified is then sent through different electronic components inside the monitor known as the crossover network.

5) Active Monitors

Active monitors have all that built in, which presents a few benefits.

These do not need an external amplifier because it already has an in-built amplifier inside its cabinet. The input signal enters the monitor and passes through the crossover network then it separately amplifies each band before it is sent to the designated drivers.
